Vector-borne diseases

Many diseases that you will encounter in your travels, and particularly in the tropics, are referred to as vector-borne diseases. These are diseases carried by insects, parasites and other organisms that can directly infect you, and in doing so, pass on the disease.

Common diseases that we can treat you for in this category include:

  • Chagas' disease
  • Dengue fever
  • Japanese encephalitis*
  • Malaria
  • Schistosomiasis/bilharzia
  • Sleeping sickness
  • Tick-borne encephalitis*
  • Yellow fever*

*These diseases can be prevented by vaccination. To find out more, click here. Many other vector-borne diseases are carried by mosquitoes and can be prevented by taking appropriate measures.
